Rest

My wife likes to tell me that if I don’t rest, GOD will make me rest. Basically, if I don’t take care of myself, I am going to be sick and have no choice but to slow down and sleep to feel better.

We are coming off a long weekend where my intentions where to get some extra rest and take a little break from the hustle and chaos of my job, side hustle and life in general. Unfortunately that slow down came with getting sick.

While it is probably just a result of spending 3 hours in a hockey rink one night, staying up until 2am the night after that and my allergy to my parent’s cat. We stayed there for 3 nights as part of our rest and relaxation, I can’t help thinking that slowing down a little opened up the door for sickness to creep in.

My usualy stance on being sick is I don’t have time to be sick. I take fairly good care of my body, but I will say the chaos of the start of winter sports season has resulted in a reduction in my sleep and an increase in stress which probably scientifically weakens your ability to ward off the coughs, sneezes and sniffling nose that comes with the midwest winter weather.

So the focus now shifts from rest to recovery. Lots of water, medicine to manage the drainage and pain and hopefully energy to get a good, sweaty workout in tomorrow to start getting it all out of my system. Sick, sucks. I need more discipline routines, more rigid sleep habits. By trying to stay up and accomplish more, I have put myself in hole because I can’t acomplish much when I am sick.

The balance is hard to find, but rest assured if you don’t, GOD will make you.
