In the previous blogs I explained how maintaining your weight and having a good daily routine are key to staying healthy during the pandemic. Though this information is important, you may be needing help with what to eat.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has been the leading organization providing information and advice over the past two years regarding the pandemic. Along with informing people to mask up and maintain socially distance, they also provide nutritional advice.

  • Daily, eat: 2 cups of fruit (4 servings), 2.5 cups of vegetables (5 servings), 180 g of grains, and 160 g of meat and beans (red meat can be eaten 1−2 times per week, and poultry 2−3 times per week).
  • Eat fruits, vegetables, legumes (e.g. lentils, beans), nuts and whole grains (e.g. unprocessed maize, millet, oats, wheat, brown rice or starchy tubers or roots such as potato, yam, taro or cassava), and foods from animal sources (e.g. meat, fish, eggs and milk).

Focusing on eating a variety of food is important while making sure to consume all the food groups daily. Along with eating nutritional food, it is also important to be staying hydrated by drinking lots of water. The WHO states, “Water is essential for life. It transports nutrients and compounds in blood, regulates your body temperature, gets rid of waste, and lubricates and cushions joints.” By drinking lots of water your body will be able to function properly and process the food you eat.
