Stop doing user interviews. Start having conversations.
Nicola Rushton

Great post! You’ve put a lot of things into concrete words that have been floating around my head for awhile. The biggest shift for me was moving away from formal interview scripts and creating “topic maps” instead. This gives the conversation more freedom and I stopped scrambling when things go “off script”. The interviews started to go a lot smoother and honestly they were a lot more fun.

I also quit trying to take “good” notes during interviews and now just rely on recording the conversations if I don’t have anyone around to help take notes. Then, if something really juicy comes up I just note the time on the recording so I can come back to it later.

Thanks for sharing!
