Fast food is shitty for your body. Yet we eat it.
How screwy is that? That old “you are what you eat” axiom bites people in the ass day in and day out and yet here we are, animals queuing at the feeding trough of a McDonald’s or a Dairy Queen or even a Subway. (Yes — all of this is fucking terrible for you.)
You eat garbage, you get garbage results.
- A double quarter pounder with cheese + a medium fry = 1110 calories, 23g of saturated fat, 63% of your daily recommended amount of sodium
- A medium Chocolate Xtreme Blizzard = 800 calories, 20g of saturated fat, 87g of sugar (daily recommended amount is 25g).
- A 6" sweet onion chicken teriyaki sub sandwich = 500 calories, 960mg of sodium (40% recommended amount), only 4g of fiber compared to 8g of sugar.
If you are deliberate in what you put in your mouth, you don’t go to these places.
There’s only one chain restaurant worth your time (and your health):
Chipotle is by far worlds beyond any other fast food establishment. No GMO, vegan options, fresh vegetables from healthy soil, and pork “allowed to freely root and roam outdoors or in deeply bedded barns” (Chipotle.com). Their entire philosophy is built around Food With Integrity, ensuring the best food is given to their customers.
Yes, they did have an e-coli scare back a few years ago, but with proper training and upping their standards, I believe Chipotle has bounced back in a big way.
Not to mention, it’s delicious!
Here is my classic burrito bowl:
- Brown rice (I don’t get rice every time though)
- Black beans
- Fajita veggies
- Double chicken (might cut back after watching What the Health)
- Medium salsa and pico de gallo
- Cheese (also might cut back on; see chicken)
870 total calories, 9g of saturated fat, 83g of protein, 7g of sugar, 11g of fiber, a good source of Vitamin C, iron, and calcium.
Takeaway: If you want to eat out, know what you’re getting in return.
(I might even have some Chipotle today…)
