First off, I do properly source everything. Any research done by me I link in the articles. If it isn’t linked, then yes, it is my opinion and own findings. But does that mean you get to blatantly dismiss everything I say? Absolutely not.
You see, I have results. I don’t eat breakfast, I am not losing my hair, I am not at an increased risk for Type 2 diabetes, I have in fact MORE energy, and I’ve experienced fat loss, not weight loss (‘cause there’s a difference). Don’t knock it ‘til you try it. It’s sustainable and easy for people to get on board with being healthy and deliberate about their choices.
I get you went through extensive efforts to find articles related to potential negative effects of IF, but where’s the dissenting opinion part? You know, those thousands of articles that claim IF is good for you, like:
- IF helps decrease the risk of Type 2 Diabetes over restricting calories.
- Reduces oxidative damages and increases cellular stress resistance. (2)
- Helps obese individuals lose weight healthily while reducing risk for coronary artery disease.
- Increases metabolism while decreasing inflammation. (2)
- Aids in autophagy and recycling nutrients.
- May help healthy cells from getting killed through chemotherapy.
- Helps fight against aging and degenerative diseases associated with it, including Alzheimer’s. (2) (3)
- MAY EVEN REVERSE DIABETES.
And here’s a big study from USC.
(I literally pulled all of this from my phone in 10 minutes, that’s how much positive research there is to back my shit up.)
Now, of course, my philosophy is that everybody’s body is different. My girlfriend — and most women for that matter — should be careful, considering fasting’s effects on hormones. And some people can already eat less than needed for fat loss. And even when you do fast, you should be eating quality, healthy foods.
But it works. And it’s good for you if you do it right. The best way is not alternative day fasting — in my opinion — but instead start with a 16-8 “Leangains” protocol. Don’t be afraid of losing muscle mass, of getting cancer from not eating for 2/3rds of your day, from getting diabetes because you break your fast with a damn banana.
Fasting is healthy. And I got a lot more research to back me up.
