Finding Inspiration outside of work to get things done

After looking for some inspiration, I recently picked up a book to read called “Create or Hate — Successful People Make Things” by Dan Norris. It was a quick read, the book itself is only 108 pages — but it is filled with inspiring chapters about how you have to fight the hate if you want to get stuff done. You just have to do something, be a doer — everyone has ideas, it’s the execution that makes you successful — even if the idea fails, at least you have taken a risk and have accomplished and learned something.

Being that I’m a creative person and a web developer by trade, I have lots of ideas, which end up sitting around and not getting done. I know from work that if I want to get a big project completed, we need to cut it up into smaller chunks and measure the small progress. A few months go by and the project is complete!

I’ve been doing something similar with Guitar, I try to pick it up at least once a week and mess around. I have a trello board with my personal goals for the year, some of them are trying to learn a new song, some are building a new tool. Guitar is a bit easier, but there are websites that I would like to start.

I’m interested in how others get things done, outside of their day job… What is the best way? How do you measure it?
