This reminds me of an anecdote from my girlfriend. A Hispanic girl at her then part-time job chastised her for speaking about culture.

“You don’t have a culture. White people aren’t allowed to talk about culture.”

Besides the obvious products of European culture, such as various forms of music, dress, and innovation, the crowning achievement of western culture is its philosophy, which is what lies at the root of American culture.

But those who only see things in the most superficial way see nothing in that. When they think of culture they imagine tribal tattoos and beaded necklaces. They lack the insight to realize that much of what they value as good in their own behavior and thoughts is what they might call “white culture”, that when they pontificate on these subjects, it’s precisely western schools of thought that allow them to evaluate things in the way that they do.
