Headed back to Mexico

Four years later, and I’m back!

It’s been a while…

I’ve been serving on short term trips to Rancho de Sus Niños since 2007. In 2010, I took my own team of high schoolers from Alma Heights Christian High School. It was, like any similar trip, as much of a blessing to us as to the people we served.

The kids don’t seem to get tired of seeing new faces!

It takes a lot of work to prep a team, help them fundraise, and be responsible for all the things that make the trip possible, so needless to say, I have tried to pace myself because of all my other responsibilities.

As I write this, it’s amazing to realize that it’s been 4 years since the last time I served in Mexico. I took another team to Peru in the summer of 2010 and then a team to Costa Rica in 2011, and they were life-changing trips for the team, and our service greatly encouraged the people that we served.

These trips were all made possible by the generosity of friends and family.

This is my last year at Alma Heights before I move to Oklahoma in the summer to live near family, and I figured I should make one more trip with my students.

I’m excited to see the orphans again, like this little guy:

Working with the kids at Rancho has always been a blast. They have so much energy and love interacting with the teams that come to serve.

The pastor from Coastside Community Church is leading the trip this time, and I am so glad to be able to just serve alongside the rest of the team and hopefully be an encouragement to the students as we serve.

I’ll be helping with the music (singing in Spanish), and the sports ministry. I’ll also be training students to take video and photos so we can put together a video at the end to share with those who supported the trip but weren’t able to go themselves.

Want to help me get there?

I’ve always hated fundraising, but my friend reminded me that by opening it up for others to contribute to the trip, we’re allowing people to take part in this ministry who wouldn’t have otherwise been able to take part. I’d hope that everybody would have an opportunity to serve on a trip like this at some point in their life, because it truly changes you.

I’ve already raised the funds I need, but if you would like to “go” on this trip with us, would you join in prayer and/or financial support for some of my students?

I’ve already raised enough for myself to go
thanks to so many generous donors!
Feel free to help some of my students get there, though!

Thanks!
Jake
