Engineer vs. Architech
I’m a civil engineer who has studied architecture and have a massive appreciation for it. Engineers are more quantitative. In school, programs ensure make we understand the loading and the stresses and the materials involved in order for a structure to stand. It is very left brained, very analytical, very math based, and so on.
Architecture is quit the opposite. Though requiring a good bit of math as well, this field is far more about design. What will it look like? What will it feel like? How will the space integrate into the existing spaces around it, so that the user of the facility feels a certain way or thinks a certain thing. It’s way more creative than engineers are required to be, and more about theory and application than about behind the scenes numbers.
