The notion of embracing early mornings and consistent sleep patterns felt alien, even after encountering countless articles extolling their virtues. My university journey, particularly its concluding semester, resembled a whirlwind of obligations: classes on some days, work on others, and sporadic moments of respite.

Then, a few months back, I delved into the mesmerizing world of Haruki Murakami’s novels, with “Norwegian Wood” swiftly claiming the title of my favorite. Intrigued by Murakami’s captivating prose, I embarked on a quest to learn more about the enigmatic author.

In my exploration, I stumbled upon a revelatory nugget nestled within a 2004 interview:

“When I’m in writing mode for a novel, I get up at 4 a.m. and work for five to six hours. In the afternoon, I run for ten kilometers or swim for fifteen hundred meters (or do both), then I read a bit and listen to some music. I go to bed at 9 p.m.

I keep to this routine every day without variation. The repetition itself becomes the important thing; it’s a form of mesmerism. I mesmerize myself to reach a deeper state of mind.”
