DAY THREE

Route Three was a success today, the Thameslink from Wimbledon all the way to Farringdon.

A very good start to the day, with meetings/interviews with my teammates. This was insightful and got me thinking, as begining I was hearing more “developer lingo”. I needed to understand this terminology or at least know what a “GEM” or “RAILS,” etc, do.

This led me to be more forthcoming with questions around this area. With great delight, everyone was willing to give me the insights and answers to my questions.

I got to sit down with Jim today, after his hero effort, flying halfway round the world on less than a night’s sleep in two days.

We took the meeting out of the office to get a much talked about filter coffee from Prufrock. This to my surprise was very tasty, and worth every bit of the office hype. The care in which the baristas at Prufrock take in the coffee making process, fits ever so seamless with the 8th Light mentally.

In my talk with Jim, we discussed my development and ways in which we can work to reinforce and continuously develop my learning. First ideas was to write down and seek the answers from the team on “developer lingo” and publish my findings so people can see my understanding and provide feedback on certain areas. Also we are going to start writing tasks to develop my style, grammar and manner of my writing. This needs much attention as you can probably see, in reading my blogs.

Then I went to my first IPM at a client site with the team. This was very interesting, to see how stories progress and what issues arise that cause stories to get blocked or unable to finish in that weeks iteration.

This meeting was also interesting to see how the 8th Light and the interanl teams estimate how long new and existing stories will take to complete. I need to ask the team on how they count a thumb on one hand is five.
