Mr. Barber’s message is off base according to the scriptures. Unfortunately he has chosen to force an interpretation on them that is not consistent with the flow of the entirety of the scriptures. Jesus’ doctrine involved divine healing. He never used medicine or medication in healing people. True to form, neither did his disciples. There was a reason that he said “give to Cesar what belongs to Cesar, and to God what belongs to God”. Jesus also said that his kingdom “is not of this world”. I suppose that’s why Paul admonished Christians to pray for their worldly leaders “that they may lead peaceable lives”. The “problem” that Christ came to solve is sin. That is what separates men from God. The vocation of all godly ministers is to deal with that issue. Otherwise, God’s favor will never be obtained.
The scriptures that Mr. Barber cited were addressing Jesus’ disciples, whether ministers and /or saints. Sin is the reason for all of the ills of this world including corruption. Every thing else is a symptom. What disturbs me is those that should know this don’t. And for that reason they fail to be a real help to the souls of people. So round and round we go. Never solving the issue. Had Mr Barber and the preachers he deigned to admonish really understood Jesus’ purpose (“Behold the lamb of God, which take away the sin of the world” John 1:29) and the calling of the ministry, their pursuits would be to this end. And worldly recognition would be the last thing that they sought.
