Out with the old, in with the new (website)
This is a pretty big week in the life of Highlands Fellowship.
I started working at Highlands a few weeks ago (this is my 3rd week here) and I have really hit the ground running. Along with working through my Online Director roles and getting my footing around HFOnline (our online campus community), the Communications Team has been trying to roll out a completly new RMS (resource maganagement system) and website.
The new systsem is built on a platform called the Rock (aptly named for a church platform…). It is a backend system for data entry, giving, calendar, etc, PLUS a new site that uses that data to customize the site depending on who is logged on to the site. Let me give you an example: say we are having a baptism weekend at the end of the month and we want to give people a chance to sign up to be baptized. If you have logged in and created an account and we knew that you had not been baptized, you could see an image or a banner that would prompt you to sign up to be baptized. If you were logged in as a member and we had a record of your baptism, you would not see that slide (you could even see another slide, maybe something asking if you knew someone who might want to be baptized this month). It is an incredible combination of data management and web content creation!
I had never done any coding, so it’s been a wild few weeks learning about HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap systems. I am not even anywhere near proficient, but thanks to YouTube, Google, and other guys on staff, I am slowly getting the hang of coding.
I cannot wait to share our new site when it launch in the next few days. It is completely responsive to whatever device you are using; so it looks great on mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops.
We are hoping to launch in the next day or so (we were up till 2am last night coding and chatting on Slack). So, let me give you a little screenshot preview of the new site to give you an idea of what it will look like! The first image is our current site, which was built around 7 years ago. Then the next screenshot is our new landing page.

I will post a link once the site is live. Here’s to a great Launch Week!
