My Thoughts to You 002 | Just Ask

Have you found yourself in a situation where you knew a specific person would help you tremendously, whether that be for your business or just plain guidance, but you came up with a million excuses why to not approach them? I’m writing this article because I have found myself there MANY times and I’m sure you have, too. But one thing I am here to PREACH is that you must ask — your future depends on it.

I recently had an experience where I passed up an opportunity. My home golf course recently had a transition of presidents. I am starting a golf clinic Golf 4 Life and more than anything, wanted the clinic to first be hosted there. I was putting on the practice green when I first saw the new president walking towards me. He was walking with two other gentlemen, but I knew it would be a great opportunity to introduce myself and pitch my idea. Naturally, excuses started to flow in, “dude what if you screw up what you want to say?” “What if he doesn’t like your idea and is rude in front of those other guys?” “What if he doesn’t buy into you just because you’re young?” All of these “what if” scenarios ran through my head and before I knew it all I could see is his back as he walked away. Missed opportunity.

I hated that feeling and I made sure to never regret not asking again. That same day, I sent him an email laying out what I wanted to do. He got back to me the next day and said let’s set up a time to meet. Turns out he is an extremely nice, family man who heard me out entirely. Because I asked him, I now have Golf 4 Life in board member’s discussions currently. All I had to do is ask, and I implore you to do the same. You’ll never know until you try.
