This was something I too had to come to terms with. For me, the process entailed finding the right combination of a good keyboard with a good key layout. In case you are interested, the optimal setup (for me) consisted of pairing the Norman layout (normanlayout.info, what I found to be the perfect layout), with a Kinesis Advantage 2 (https://www.kinesis-ergo.com/products/#keyboards-section, what I found to be the perfect keyboard). As for learning the Norman layout, I used TypeFu (can be found in chrome web store) which has built in support for Norman. It took me about 1 month on the Norman layout before I had surpassed my previous WPM on Qwerty.
