Wow. the tone and perspective in this article are solidly on the bitter end of the spectrum. I couldn’t disagree with this article more. People make choices in life and they suffer the consequences of those choices, positive and negative. I shouldn’t be obligated to be responsible for others’ choices and related consequences. My family were poor immigrant farmers who had nothing, and yet my husband and I earn good money. We worked our asses off, got an education, worked 80–100 hr weeks, performed well and negotiated raises, negotiated better opportunities, hustled, took risks, etc. I’ve made minimum wage, but I never gave up. I was not given any special considerations or breaks — I worked for everything I have. I paid off 6 figures in debt. How dare you suggest that others be entitled to a cut of what they did not work for, rather than me passing this down my bloodline? It’s not my fault nor my responsibility to subsidize their poor choices. I can’t stand when people feel entitled to have the things/options that people who work harder/smarter/better than them have. If you want more, elevate.
