TAKING THE LEAP

My grandfather was born today, 100 years ago.

So, he would be 100 — or maybe 25.

He was born on Leap Day.

He was a star that burned really bright in his 53 short years on this earth.

But in that time he was willing to take the leap.

To stand in his integrity so firmly.

To risk life and limb.

To live by his principle of “every person matters.”

The Oscars happened last night, and his story told by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks in Bridge of Spies was nominated for 6 Oscars including best picture.

It’s on the big screen for millions to see — even 46 years after his passing.

I think the message today is to leap.

To stand for what you believe in.

To give yourself so fully to what you care about.

To love full out.

This is a special, hidden day that only pops its head up every four years.

There is magic in it.

It’s time to leap.
