What Would the World Say…

Lets be honest. There comes a time in life where we question our place in the world. From personal experience, I have questioned it countless times. I remember years ago when I could stare at a mirror and could not see who was looking back.

If the world knew me; away from the facade that I have so strongly perfected, I wonder what it would say? What I dreamed it would tell others is how much I love them. I would want it to tell others that I love my family and friends more than I love myself. I would want others to know how smart, caring, and powerful I am. I would want the world to see me the way I see me.

However, I doubt any of those words would come out so eloquently. To me, that is the saddest fact. The fact that I…we….have become accustomed to being the “best” version of ourselves instead of being the “realest” version. The fact that it takes some people years to truly understand someone who they have known since primary school. We, as humans, spend more time putting up a front about who we are rather than discovering who those around us are.

Therefore, I challenge you. I challenge you to stop “making friends” until you can positively say you know the ones who are already around you. In return, I will challenge myself to do the same. I will take the last few weeks that I have at home to make sure I know everyone who I have considered a friend on a personal level.

This could be hard for some. Luckily, it was never meant to be easy. In an article written anonymously, the author stated, “Behind smiles are stories some may never understand but they will reveal your truest friends”.

It is time to remove the shallow layers that we have built so that when we take our final breath in life, we know exactly what the world would say about us.
