Battery Park City is a vibrant residential neighborhood, in Lower Manhattan, literally created from landfill.

All 92-acres of it was built on land reclaimed from the Hudson River using debris excavated during the construction of the World Trade Center and sand dredged from New York Harbor.

Most of it is parkland and the area is named after The Battery, previously known as Battery Park, the park that is to the south.

Battery Park City is a major tourist attraction in Manhattan, offering visitors an up-close look at many of the borough’s most iconic buildings and sites, as well as an opportunity to tour various installations and facilities supported by the City’s tourism department.

Different developers were in charge of different aspects of the community, giving it a diverse look.

The area has places to live, work, walk, and bike, and some of the most beautiful waterfront parks and open spaces in New York.

The World Financial Center, Battery Park City’s largest office complex, was built in 1988.

Battery Park City is an exciting mix of connected parks and public spaces, tall buildings, luxury shopping, residential hotels…
