I have had to face that decision twice; both times in Jerusalem. I drove into a pack of teenage Palestinian delinquents who wanted to stone a “Jesus Freak” (actually I was just a tourist driving through the Kidron Valley to look at 1st Century tombs) and the second was in Mea Shearim, the orthodox settlement outside the Old City. I managed to stumble in there by accident on the Sabbath. Bunch of the locals surrounded our car and started pounding on it and chanting “Stone Them.” I was on the verge of hitting the gas and to hell with it when a local guy came out and calmed them down telling them I was just a stupid, lost American. Reynolds is right. When you drive into a lynch mob you do what you have to do.
