Meet Slyp Beta
Today we are thrilled to announce the official launch of Slyp Beta. We are opening our doors to share with you our platform — that will, with your help, rehumanize online content discovery. Skip to the bottom if you want to sign up for our Beta, or continue reading to get the full skinny on Slyp.
A content-sharing network sans algorithms; for the people, by the people, of the people.
What problems are we addressing?
We want people to regain control over the content they are consuming online. Specifically, we are addressing content overload, clickbait media and a fragmented content-sharing paradigm.
Why is this particular problem worth solving?
Depending on your philosophical bent, the information processed by your brain either to a very large degree or entirely determines your thoughts and actions in the world around you. So deciding what content to “recommend” you, proves to be very influential on your life direction (read: the power of the media). We want people to consume the highest quality content online, and we don’t want any say in it, nor do we think any other central body should have any say in it. We think the most elegant and sustainable approach is to build a platform that facilitates peer to peer content recommendations, eschewing “recommendations” from algorithms dominant on the web today . We like to think of it as decentralised content curation.
How will we decentralise content curation?
In our mind’s eye, Slyp will become the new standard for content sharing online. Real people will decide what other people see, not a company’s algorithms or editorial board. We will, in effect, filter the Internet — together.
Why should I use Slyp?
Anecdote proves helpful here.
I have a really good article I want to share with some friends. I really wish some friends in particular would see it but I’m hesitant about some other “friends” seeing it. After I send it, I really want to hear their thoughts. What is their take on it? What have I missed? Do they know of any other content on this topic that may balance out this article’s opinion?
So maybe I post it to Facebook or maybe I Tweet it. But I’m aware that group behaviour can be counter-productive to honest and thoughtful discussion.
So maybe I email it to my family and FB message it to some friends... then maybe I text it to some others. Some of them are too busy and forget to read it, and others quickly skim it.
What should I do? I should probably slyp it.

What is Slyp to me?
We imagine that in your mind’s eye, Slyp will be these three things:
- Home to content that you want to refer back to and share later
- Your go to when you tell a friend “Hey, I read a really good article the other day, I’ll slyp it to you!”
- A never-ending, but not overwhelming, feed of content your friends think you in particular will be interested in
