London (or, #WeAreGoingToTakeSoManyPhotos) — Part 1.

A visual journal.

I was so excited to watch Star Wars on the plane. But then I slept for seven hours straight #NOREGRET
My photo for my family to confirm that I was indeed, alive.
I don’t know how this food is even possible. I definitely don’t get fed as well on the ground.
As delicious as the food was, they make for even better photos and I was excited, so yeah… 🙈
Fancy chocolates, always welcomed.
The Emirates Lounge has an entire floor to itself at the Dubai airport and of course, it was beautifully lit with wood and glass everywhere.
Even though it was 4am, breakfast time is still breakfast time.
My layover was around five hours, so I had a lot of time to reflect. I think all of those thoughts deserve its own blog post, so I won’t say too much here other than that I was intensely aware of how lucky I was to a) work for such a great company that affords me incredible opportunities and b) to be able to travel in such luxury. Looking around my environment, the oppulance of it all did make me feel somewhat uneasy and deeply aware of my privilege. But that’s a blog post for another time.
A good distraction though, was the amazing showers in the lounge — these really did make a world of difference, and gave a semblance of normality to the craziness of air travel (seriously, sitting for days in a metal-winged bird, connected to satellites, carrying tons of flammable fire-liquid. There is nothing normal about air travel).
I tried to take a selfie with the Ben & Jerry vending machine as my first London photo but then realised that this was probably “better” for memory sake 😝
Fresh London air! Also, the start of a really good streak with the weather. I totally only got rained on once for the entire duration of the trip.
One of the best things that working at Unilever will ever give me, is my darling Jo ❤️
A) Her nails matched with her phone (which was amazing) B) I have missed her SO MUCH C) It will not be another two years before we see each other again
We instinctively looked at each other when we drove past the sign because we know exactly how it feels (and also cause we are dorks).
We couldn’t quite decide on the starters, so we did the logical thing and ordered it all 🙌
Looking at this picture makes me think I may have gotten rained on more than once. But I was clearly so happy to see Amena that I totally forgot about the rain. Seems like having my two favourites in one spot just totally overwhelmed my memories!
We decided the best way to adventure was to take the tube and pick a random station to jump out at. Which we did. And found that we were deep in the suburbs with seemingly no adventure anywhere to be found. Luckily, the The Old Oak was around the corner, filled with soccer non-hooligans, intensely focused on the Real Madrid and Barcelona game. We managed to catch the end of the game (and overhear some very intense conversation/fight/discussion between strangers) and left the pub with a mix of satisfaction and confusion over what we just witnessed.
It turns out Adele’s “Hello” (from the other side) is pretty much applicable in any situation.
Day 2! Let’s go! Song of the day “Young, Wild and Free” by Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa ft. Bruno Mars 😎
This was when I got so distracted by how beautiful London is, that I totally missed my bus stop and got hopelessly lost. But it’s hard to complain about being lost in such a gorgeous place.
Bright-eyed, bushy tailed and giggling because she was already overdosing on her espresso 😂
We were so lucky that we got to watch some of students rehearsing at the Shakespeare’s Globe for their annual performance. It would’ve been a great pity to have left there without a taste of what the theatre is like with performers!
Everything is just so ridiculously pictureque
I found Alfred!
“Though she be but little, she is fierce”
We lost each other. Even with GPS and all the technology in the world. NEVER AGAIN SHALL THIS HAPPEN 🙅
Yes, we have the best jobs in the world. Our work actually asked us to Snapchat our adventure.
Follow the lines, the paths, the clouds and songs, they will guide you to where you need to go.
We found St. Paul’s Cathedral! (though truth be told, it was quite difficult to miss, so maybe not something worth bragging about…).
It always feels a bit of a struggle taking photos in London because there is always so much that I wanted to fit into one frame. It even makes the panoramas feel a little cramped.
Jo being an 😇
An example of a safe selfie.
An example of a non-safe selfie — ie. that time I almost got Jo run over on the road…
Also picturesque.
We had so much fun with this goat! This was an interactive goat statue, that would call you and speak to you when you stood under it. Of course, much giggling ensued (I’m looking at you Jo 😂).
It took us a while to figure out how to put on this scarf, but once we did, it was magic.
She made my lunch, with what was essentially a light saber 😍
Doughnut heaven 🍩
Matcha (green tea) doughnut. Matcha would turn out to be a recurring theme…
Polaroids > Every other camera
I still have to pinch myself sometimes to check that it wasn’t all just a dream…
Iconic much?
We had fun with the glass walkway ✌️
🙊🙈

A single golf clap? Or a long standing ovation?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
