I Work Only Minutes A Day… Now

I’ve been thinking A LOT about WORK lately…

Why…? Well… I’m challenged by it. I’m challenged by the word. Not the process or effort.

(Yes, I’m a ‘thinker’’, I like to dig into the BIG questions)

It’s kinda weird but I don’t think I actually do it… Work that is.

And you may not be either…

Well…at least, not as much as I’ve been thinking about the word lately…

I’ve re-assessed my ‘WORK’ time down to minutes a day by the process I describe here…

So how did I come to this realisation…

Well…I’ve been mapping my ‘Happiness’ via a cool little app called ‘Track Your Happiness’.

What it does is… A few times a day, it asks you a bunch of questions around how you’re feeling, what you’re doing, are you interacting with people, are you using technology, are you driving, are you experiencing joy or awe, etc, etc…

It’s got me thinking in terms of happiness, not anything else. (which is great of course)

It asks loads of different stuff that I’m sure helps a room full of bean counters somewhere analyse what makes people happy.

So what have I learned…

Well…. That I don’t actually work much at all.

Literally minutes a day as I said…

The app asks you about work, ‘if you’re working’ and ‘what you’re doing’, regularly…but even while I’ve been ‘working’ (or what most would consider work), I’ve actually ‘ticked’ the box for ‘leisure’ or ‘interacting’…or other items.

In my assessments during the tracking, I’ve noticed that I’ve been assessing everything in terms of how ‘happy’ it makes me…not anything else.

I’ve also ‘ticked’ the box for ‘no, I wouldn’t want this to end’ and there are a few other questions I’ve noticed myself ‘ticking’ off that all point to one thing…

When you measure the tasks you complete via ‘happiness’, you’re able to remove the thought of those tasks being ‘work’.

I’ve found I’m at my happiest when I’m completing tasks that have me progressing towards a desired outcome…

i.e: WHAT PEOPLE CALL WORKING

So I’m re-thinking my whole belief around WORK as a word and what that means for attaining desired outcomes…

I’ve begun tracking the times I feel that I’m actually ‘WORKING’ (or unhappy) also and notice that these are totally unrelated to me achieving my desired outcomes…

What I’ve noticed about these times are that they all take me out of a natural flow OR happy state, they pull me sideways or backwards, and actually cause pressure inside of me…

Gratefully, now that I’ve been tracking these… I can say that they are at an absolutely minimum.

As mentioned, literally minutes a day.

These are the new items I’m now calling WORK. And I can safely say, that they have nothing to do with work.

Items like ‘emptying the rubbish bins’…and ‘checking the mail’…

There is literally just a handful of items that once removed from my hands, (outsourced) will remove all WORK from life as I live it…

This I’m sure will be different for everyone…but hey, imagine never having to work a day ever again…

That’s my desired outcome.

Worth thinking about, tracking and changing your mind on…
