Introduction The International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) in Amsterdam has always been a pinnacle for professionals around the globe involved in creating, managing, and distributing entertainment and news content. As we gear up for the 2023 rendition, there’s palpable enthusiasm about the breakthroughs awaiting unveiling.

Having been a regular attendee, I’ve cherished IBC both for the warm camaraderie with industry peers and its window into what’s next. Navigating through its vast exhibits, the spectrum of technologies addressing various requirements — from virtual productions to remote contributions, and from the lens of cameras to the vastness of the cloud — is genuinely impressive.

In the subsequent sections, I’ll offer insights on what six key industry giants — TVU Networks, LiveU, Haivision, Grass Valley, Dejero, and Sumavision — might bring to the table, drawing from IBC’s historical patterns and their online presence. While detailed specifics remain a mystery, we can still hypothesize.

TVU Networks: Remote Production Excellence TVU Networks, a leader in IP-centric live video offerings, has consistently prioritized remote and at-home production. Their cloud-anchored TVU RPS (Remote Production System) was a star at IBC2022. This trend might recur, possibly with the advanced REMI backpack TVU RPS One.

Their AI-centric TVU MediaMind platform, backing IBC’s Accelerator media startup initiative, facilitates video content auto-tagging through the TVU Search tool. Along with tools like TVU Transcriber and TVU Timelock, they’re deeply invested in AI/ML. Could enhanced intelligent media management be on the horizon?

Their TVU One mobile solution converts smartphones into live cameras. Potential 5G enhancements and new features for the TVU Anywhere app, which promotes mobile live streaming, could be upcoming.

TVU’s next significant revelation might be an innovative addition to its remote production suite. Given their history, it might very well redefine industry standards.

LiveU: Multi-Camera Brilliance for Sports Broadcasting Recognized for its portable live streaming tools, LiveU’s 4K HEVC LU800 unit, which supports synchronous multi-camera feeds, is likely to be in the limelight again.

The live sports production domain has been a pivotal area for LiveU, primarily via their cloud-centric LiveU Matrix platform. This platform’s capability to channel multiple feeds to studios or remote locations has been revolutionary. Enhancements like multi-view replays or enriched statistics overlays could be in store.

Considering the global progression of 5G, their LU-Smart app, which transforms smartphones into live broadcasters, may undergo enhancements. LiveU is expected to elevate the standards for multi-camera field production and high-speed delivery.

Haivision: Pioneering Ultra-Fast Video Streams For real-time interaction, especially during live events, near-zero latency is paramount. This is Haivision’s forte, especially through their SRT protocol and Maestro suite.

Their Makito X4 encoder is renowned for its minuscule latency via SRT and H.265 encoding. As live streaming becomes more prominent, further reducing this latency while elevating quality might be their target.

For on-the-go users, their Connect Mobil App allows 1080p30 live video broadcasts from smartphones. Enhanced 5G and camera technology integration may be forthcoming.

Their comprehensive remote production offering, the Haivision Media Platform, might see added functionalities for broader workflow support. It’s anticipated that Haivision will continue leading the charge in minimizing latency throughout the media chain.

Grass Valley: Adaptable Platforms for Tomorrow Embracing a holistic ecosystem mindset, Grass Valley offers tailored solutions for the entire content cycle. Their Agile Media Processing Platform (AMPP) exemplifies this adaptable, data-driven architecture.

As remote operations gain traction, AMPP might see further enhancements to support home-based productions. More integrations with external solutions might also be in the pipeline.

Their camera lineup, the LDX series, merges native IP connectivity with stellar imaging. Enhancements to their XDR sensor or new model introductions might be on the horizon.

With the industry transitioning to IP, their GV AMPP solution, which brings cloud-level adaptability on-site, could be optimized for 4K/UHD content.

The path ahead for Grass Valley appears promising, given their commitment to adaptable solutions.

Dejero: Effortless Remote Production Connectivity Consistent connectivity is pivotal, be it for news collection or remote operations. This is where Dejero shines with their Smart Blending Technology.

Their flagship field unit, the EnGo 260, designed for HD feed acceptance and live HD streaming, might see transmission enhancements. Their cloud-based Dejero Control and WayPoint receiver might be enriched for better remote coordination.

Having recently expanded their reach in the Middle East and collaborated with 5G providers, Dejero might unveil tailor-made solutions for distinct markets. Expect them to further the seamless integration of remote production tools.

Sumavision: Masters of Video Processing Sumavision, leading the charge in China for comprehensive video technology, will undoubtedly have much in store.

Given the increasing penetration of 4K TVs, enhancements to their SUM5 series modulators and AVPU4000 blade server platform are probable.

Fiber/cable convergence with 5G offers new horizons. Their operator-focused virtualized 4K encoding solution might see advancements. With the sports industry clamoring for immersive 360° viewing experiences, next-gen processors from Sumavision wouldn’t be surprising.

Their next steps will likely fortify their stature in cutting-edge video processing and distribution.

Looking Forward Though speculative, the signs suggest that IBC2023 will usher in trailblazing innovations across the media tech spectrum. Remote and home-based workflows, swift streaming, 5G integration, AI-driven media tools, and advancements in 4K/UHD processing seem particularly imminent.

Yet, given the dynamic nature of the industry, IBC invariably surpasses expectations, continually redefining excellence.

As IBC2023 commences, the broader picture will emerge. For now, the horizon seems boundless. By leveraging IP and cloud technologies atop their foundational expertise, these pioneering firms are charting the path ahead.
