The drive of all sin is selfishness. If we lie, cheat, commit adultery, kill, have other gods, we do these things we cause we are selfish. We put our desires ahead everything else. We are more prone to do it in the post-modern, what Frances Schaeffer called post-Christian, era because individuality has become god.
If man is his own god, then like all gods, he is a selfish one. The concepts of sin, self control, and selflessness are literally blasphemous to him, and like all gods, he wants to pour his wrath on those who blaspheme.
