My Youtube Journey

When I started “doing” YouTube I really wasn’t sure if it was the right thing for me. I knew I wanted to create but I didn’t know what I wanted to create or even how I should be creating it. Not the mention the need to make money at the same time, when I started I had a full time Job. This meant any free time I had was spend experimenting with what I thought people might want to see.

Amazingly people subscribed, even when the quality of my videos was questionable. The subject I chose to start with was gaming. It seemed like the right way to go, everyone was doing it and it seemed popular.

I’ve also had my fair share of Troll action, where another youtuber decided to get their friends to dislike every video I have… It gets very tiresome after a few months of harassment, which caused me to stop making videos for a while. My advice to those who get trolled on the internet is to just keep going, maybe even make a video standing up to them. I have seen others do this and if done correctly the positive reaction usually out weights the negative.

When I first started making videos I did gaming challenges where I would challenge my self to get 10,000 points on games like Pac-Man and Donky Kong. Then I tried my Hand at straight game play videos which was a lot of fun but they weren’t right.

I then created some comedy videos about games, they kinda worked and I got me some extra views along side some new subscribers. Although I made the mistake of posting a video with the title “Minecraft is Dead” which wasn’t well received by the mine-craft community on Reddit… Yeah don’t post your own video on Reddit, they hate that especially if you sound like your are threatening them… The video title was actually meant to be “MineCraft is Dead?” Which kinda changes the meaning of the video.

Also I didn’t take into account when I started was the fact that the big Youtubers out there were dominating the search and suggested videos of the gaming niche and millions of smaller Youtubers over saturating it too. So I realised, in order for YouTube to really embrace you, you need to create content no one else is making or find a less popular theme.

As I am a glutton for punishment, I have decided to stay and find a spin on the gaming niche. This will not only feed my need to create but also actually start to build a following, so that I can actually feed me and my family!

My plan is to find that and write about it. Check my youtube channel to see how I’m getting on: http://www.youtube.com/nerdite
