A Noteworthy Change in Pop Culture Music Taste

It’s interesting the way culture goes. Phasing from one fad to the next, always at a fast pace looking for the next big thing that’s going to satisfy the most people at once. Sadly, this monopolization of culture has crossed over the line and into what may be considered unauthorized territory. I’m talking about music.

Everyone’s music taste is different. It’s like a language, unique to the upbringing and what surrounds each person. I myself grew up on classic rock and roll, lot’s of 70s, 80s, and early 90s jams. Many grew up with rap, others with classical, and any other genre you can think of.

It’s been my personal observation at least that music culture has taken a turn for the darker side of entertainment. My meaning that those producing the music aren’t making it the way music is supposed to be created. Heartfelt, homegrown, original music. No, the music being made is the mass-market, maximum sales, target audience, one-size-fits-all garbage that we’ve been hearing all the time. Same beat, same chords, same drops, same lyrics, same themes, whatever. And I hate to admit it, I’ve been sucked into it myself, we all have. But it’s like eating at McDonald’s every day and never eating a home cooked meal. It’s unhealthy. It gets gross after awhile. But if you do it for to long it just becomes part of you life and before you know it you’re sucked in.

Let’s face it… We’ve settled for the fast food of music. Are we ever going to get back to organic?
