This is a really awesome quote. I think that all too often people try to manipulate the consequences to their gain or either attempt to minimize the damage that will result in their poor choice. I love this simple concept that goes like this; “If you pick up one end of a stick, you’re going to lift up the other end.” That’s a natural law. It absolutely will happen. And thus it is with consequences. It is natural law that our poor decisions will result in consequences. In contrast, when we make good decisions, it can be trusted in the law of consequences that something good will naturally result.
Later on in the article, Russel Nelson was quoted. I think people can be selfish sometimes in their decision making. They think, “well, it’s only going to effect me, no one else is going to know about it.” This shortsighted and narrow minded point of view always results in the misery of ourselves and others.
Both of these points hang upon those principles mentioned in the quote. The principle of natural consequence is a very just and unforgiving law. Likewise it is a generous law when followed with a solid moral compass.
The simple fact of the matter is that we ought to choose to do good always, and even though there is always going to be struggle, it’s better to struggle while choosing good and finding true success. rather than struggling and lying and cheating our way through life. It’s kinda like in video games where you can choose the good or the bad ending. Of course in real life, we’ll always want the good ending, so make the decisions that are going to get you there, even if they’re difficult to make.
