Two indisputable fact about the Civil War: before the war, slavery existed in the United States, after the war, slavery no longer existed in the United States.

The idea that 1.2 million Americans were killed or wounded for something less than recognizing the humanity, and equality, of millions of people held in bondage is a disgusting meme pushed by generations of apologist for the evil of slavery.
