My mother, by any measure a top particle physicist (I’m sure you can infer her first name), was not given a full faculty salary until a few years before her retirement, and there’s no way that sexism didn’t play a role in that. It is infuriating that you can tell a story from 2015 that would fit right in with the ones she has from the 1960s.
I know there’s been some progress in 50 years, but for goodness sakes, that’s more than my own lifetime. I remember playing with punch cards and slide rules as a child! If we can come so far in a technical sense, why are so many still unable to respect you as a physicist?
