I’m not opposed to Harriet Tubman being on currency but I’m not necessarily for it either. It’s subjective I guess, but who is to say one piece of history is more important than another? It feels like a political ploy.
No one person can ever be responsible for saving a country, but if anyone in our history has been it’s probably Andrew Jackson. That in itself speaks volumes. Without Andrew Jackson there is a chance there isn’t an America right now.
Taking on the nationalization of banks during this time was a MAJOR part of his success as a President, it’s an unprecedented example of how an elected leader can use his power to do what is necessary and right vs. what is popular. Historians who have studied this era credit Jackson immensely for this, maybe more so than his military abilities.
Tubman has her own rightful place in history, what she did was more touching on an individual level and more valiant in my estimation. It is deserved that we continue to teach and learn about her actions and to not allow them to fade. But it will be the same with Andrew Jackson now, too.
