Women Rule Comedy Now, OK?

I mean I think it’s beyond obvious that comedic women have become a bursting trend over the last 5–10 years or so, but I’m not sure they’ve really come close to taking the lion’s share if you will. It’s kind of silly to even look at it like that, but if that’s how we’re trying to compare that is how it appears in my mind.

I disagree overall though, but it’s just preference, there isn’t a “right” or “wrong” here. In fact, most of the funny women I’ve found aren’t prominent yet — I personally do not think Melissa McCarthy or Leslie Jones are all that funny but you know whatever — and I’ve come across a little of their work through random TV shows like @ midnight. Matter of fact I’m watching one right now and Emily Heller is on here and she’s brilliant, like absolutely hilarious. No idea what else she is in, none. There are easily 25 other women I’ve seen on this show that are like this — and when I’ve searched them out I wasn’t disappointed very often (one is Nikki Glaser, who I find is one of my favorites in the limited screen time I’ve seen, and Grace Helbig, Morgan Murphy, etc.)

But I thought Bridesmaids was horrible, I’ve watched two seasons of Lena Dunham’s “Girls” and while the actresses are really good and seem funny themselves I just couldn’t get into it. New Girl, despite its name, is carried by everyone but Zooey Deschanel (including the other female co-star, Hannah Simone), and that’s not a knock on her it’s just that the other stars (3 males, 1 female) are really damn good. In Happy Endings I loved all the characters, my least favorite was one of the males in fact, but I would say they were all very equal (3 male, 3 female leads).

At the end of the day though this is all just conjecture, our personal opinions aren’t representative of much broader trends at all — I mean it’s possible that would be coincidence.
