KD has to go. Game 7 should be the final nail in the OKC coffin. That series epitomized the era of KD and Westbrook as a whole — supremely talented and can run with anyone when they’re great, but just not consistent enough to go all the way with it. I believe it’s theoretically possible, anyone can get hot and get lucky etc. But their own hubris kills them far too often.
Specifically Westbrook. I know he’s insanely talented, but he’s really damn good at shooting his own team out of a game and sometimes series. He doesn’t know how to let his foot off the gas, even when it’s spinning out of control. Game 7 was indicative of that, where despite a brilliant shooting night from KD, Russ took more shots. Why can’t he take that backseat? And you even said yourself he damn sure won’t do it, that leaves KD no other option.
Go somewhere else, be the man with no qualms, and demand really smart basketball from all your teammates.
I actually believe the divide between the East and West will diminish over the next few years, I mean you’re mentioning the TWolves for God’s sakes (sorry, but other than KAT, they’re pretty bad, Wiggins is one of the worst players in the NBA because of his horrific defense and very uninspiring offense). The Clippers aren’t a real threat, though solid, but they’ll only get worse as time goes on, and until Dame can take it to the next level the Trailblazers aren’t exactly noteworthy. But that said, it will still be far easier in the East and he could be the maestro anywhere he wants to go in the East.
I personally think it should be the Celtics. The coach is one of the best in the NBA (maybe THE best, seriously), the pieces are damn near in place, and to add to that history would be inspiring in itself. To provide the next legacy to Boston would be something special.
