Here’s why Facebook’s Black Lives Matter sign means nothing

Zuckerberg is a media whore — now I’m not saying that FB made this move and then forced the attention, though I don’t know, but they are very happy with themselves about it, surely patting themselves on the back right now.

Yet, Zuck isn’t inclusive at all and that exclusivity, driven mostly by his socioeconomic status but more than that I’m sure, is the stake between us at the moment.

White people — and do not for a minute think that I believe I’m above the fray, I’m not — are adept at wanting to care but coming up well short in our actions. So many of us know there’s an issue, yet we’re unwilling to actively work towards a solution. So many of us recognize privilege, and we sure as hell haven’t even started to give it up.

We’re quick to post our outrage on social media and then use our networks derived from privilege to land better jobs that we may or may not have deserved / earned (taking them from someone better suited to be sure). We judge the openly racist white people and then move in right next door because those are the “safe” neighborhoods with the “better” schools — because stereotypes aren’t true until it comes to our own experiences. It’s the summation of little things that cause the big problems, on an individual scale it seems like no big deal, multiply that by tens of millions and the issue becomes more obvious.

Zuckerberg wants to be known as some pioneer on the forefront of the issues, he wants to be known as a forward thinker who is ahead of his time, but he doesn’t want to ACTUALLY do the things necessary to be those things — he just wants the title and he’s used to getting everything he wants, earned or not.
