I definitely agree that there’s internal fighting within both major parties, and I have personally been discussing inside various groups the reshaping of the parties since 2010 (to me that’s a pretty pivotal moment in modern political history). We’re certainly living in interesting times.
I think the GOP is suffering from a lot of fractures, though, primarily because of a split between various extreme camps related to economics and social issues. I think that the fractures within the GOP have been more obvious and glaring for quite some time, but that 2016 really showed (or exacerbated) fractures within the Democratic Party.
I’m interested to see what happens, but I suspect that the GOP will weaken before the Democratic party, and that the Democratic party wont weaken per se as much as the DSA faction will pull the economic ideological mean further to the left.
