Why stopping playing the lottery saved my life

Like many people I played the lottery. Not every week and not with the same numbers, just a lucky dip now and again when I was feeling lucky or perversely when I was feeling darn right unlucky and would have quite liked a few million in the bank . I have read quite a lot of books and articles on visualisation techniques and the law of attraction, so naturally I put these into practice when I did actually buy a ticket. I used to take great care and joy in my day dreams; holding a big cheque, seeing the numerous zeros in my bank account, and generously handing out gifts to friends and family. It got to the stage where I was so pumped that I was going to win that when I didn’t win a dime, my emotions plummeted. I eventually realised that the time and energy I put into playing the lottery and visualising taking down a big jackpot was rewarding me with absolutely nothing but an emotional roller coaster ride and a dent in the pocket. On reflection I deemed playing the lottery detrimental to my health and noted these 5 reasons not playing the lottery saved my life;

  1. I did not want to win

I would never win the lottery because subconsciously I wanted to be successful on my own terms. I wanted to make money through my own determination and skills. I wanted to earn the money guilt free so I could spend it guilt free. I wanted people to ask how I did it and I would gladly show them. I cannot show someone how to win the lottery.

2. If you wait for tomorrow, tomorrow never comes

Simple really but how many people put off making decisions and life changing actions purely based on the possibility that next week something positive will come along.

3. Money buys happiness but not satisfaction

Money buys stuff, and stuff makes you happy, but only for a certain period of time. Self-satisfaction is attained through pursuing inner ambitions. Millions of dollars in the bank cannot buy you satisfaction. Money gained at a young age or inherited may often be squandered as it is not serving any satisfaction but may provide easy short term yet harmful happiness.

4. If you cannot manage you money now how will you manage millions?

With mediocre resources and determination it is possible for most people to earn money. With slightly more education it is also possible for anyone that makes money through a job or a skill to save money. A simple but productive technique is to put away 10% of all earnings immediately once earned and live on the rest. Before you say it can’t be done. Just try it.

5. The law of attraction focuses on the bigger picture

I hinted earlier on my failure to harness the power of the law of attraction in winning the lottery. The law of attraction states that if you visualize owning or achieving something with such emotion and belief, the Universe will bend to your will. This said, as I have personally experienced the pay back is not always in the way you expect. Do not focus on the how, just the end result. By focusing on the lottery itself I was denying my mind the opportunity to expand and look at all the opportunities that would allow me to achieve the goal I so much desired
