Will AI replace doctors?

In consideration for Google’s Med-PaLM AI. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) threatens many jobs in the next 5 years, will the healthcare industry face this challenge?

This article is a deep dive into my previous article. Now let’s zoom into how and why AI will have a bigger stake in the healthcare landscape and will humans eventually be replaced?

While AI has demonstrated they are better in computing, following a strict set of parameters as well as recognising patterns, context is largely still not involved in the decision of AI. What do I mean by that? AI is able to determine if the patient is a smoker, largely due to the input entered by the patient, however, it is hard to discern the lifestyle factors that contribute to patient smoking. For example, stress from marriage or even work stress. These factors may contribute to the act, but AI would not have determined those if these factors were not entered into the system. AI may solve straightforward problems, but to put things into context, humans may still need to intervene.

Have you ever visited a doctor and he sees you only for 1 minute? Basically, it asks about your symptoms, diagnoses you, and tells you to wait outside for medication. Well, sadly, AI could do that too. With advanced algorithms and machine learning, AI can and will be able to…
