I have selected a real client, Hobart Milk Factory, My project will be a website for the Hobart Milk factory, it will have to emphasise how local it is, the supply from farmer to cafe, what products they have etc. So there will likely be a lot of text.

It will require a main page, a product page, social page, about page, where to find our milk page and a contact page.

Client Requirements and Goals

The main goal of the company is to create more exposure to the company. This website shall look friendly and professional.

There are a selection of products, with perhaps more flavours, there MUST be a way to show an image of the product and a description of each item. Since there is no ordering of products from the website no price tag should be present.

There should be a way to show social media.

There should be a descriptive about page.

Target Audience

Cafe’s hospitality/restaurants, small stores. The audience should be able to understand and navigate the various webpages.

Technical Requirements

HTML will need to be used as that is what all websites use

CSS is a useful tool to use when creating lots of webpages in a website.

JS will be used to give the website some life.

But mostly (and to be blunt) using CSS and JS is a part of the course!

Market Research

Wyong Milk Factory: [http://wyongmilkfactory.com.au/] I like the fonts and use of images here

Udderly tasmanian [http://udderlytasmanian.com.au/] Love the wordplay here! It looks very friendly, I am taking inspiration on how they used a map to show where their milk is delivered to.

Ashegrove milk: [https://www.ashgrovecheese.com.au/products/milk/#]

Real milk richmond: [http://www.agrilicious.org/home]

Big company multinational rival, Pura milk: [http://www.pura.com.au/]

St David Dairy: [http://stdavid.com.au/]: This is a very good site, I took inspiration on how the logo is placed and what pages they have.

Proposal

A professional and friendly looking site with minimal navigation and a clean look, the website will emphasise how local the business is and that it is family run.

Evaluating Social Media Options:

Pros and cons:

Pro’s:

-connects users/customers to the company

-Greater connectivity

-Ability to advertise self through a medium that’s commonly used and give a clearer example on what the company is about.

-Advertising is very much linked to the Facebook page in the first place.

Con’s:

-Some admin id required, or special consideration made to handle social media. In other words, a social media feature can’t be left to it’s own devices less it receives spam and other undesirable messages and displays it on the website.

-Private information could be stolen if not careful

Examples of other website’s social media:

Looking at other websites, some had a page for social media while some only had it in the footer

Stdavidsdairy has a complete page dedicated to news and social media.

Pura milk: [http://www.pura.com.au/] has some small but prominent like and share buttons at the bottom of their page.

Wyong: [http://wyongmilkfactory.com.au/events/] Is very unnoticeable though

Goals:

The client will want a way to link a user to his Facebook page.

The client may want some way to share images directly on the website.

The client will want some way to write out short messages directly on the website.

Types of social media to use:

The client only expressed interest in Facebook and Instagram.

So, social media to use:

-Facebook

-Instagram

-Pinterest (probably not)

-Twitter (probably not)

Design Sketches

This is the front page setting the layout of the rest of the website. It has a simple navigation and will strive to look clean and professional.

An about page, This will be mostly text with some background-esque pictures.

Four other pages, I’m confident I have sketched out all the pages the site will need.

Client Questionnaire

In all honesty I looked at what other people had for there questions and then created some more relating to the project.

I wasn’t sure how the products should be displayed until the feedback I got was for there not to be an ordering system but just a means to display the various products; so I adapted that into my planning.

The client has there own logo but doesn’t have a style that they personally want, so that gave me an idea to start planning.

I don’t think I would’ve had a good start unless I did the questionnaire first.
