A 3-min read isn’t very long in the newspaper world! But I think the desire for shorter information now comes because many people get their news in bursts throughout the day rather than in one sitting when the newspaper arrives. All of the stories are decoupled from each other.

I like Quartz, but it’s been a long time since I opened the app. I also am not a fan of the app’s notifications, but that might be a matter of taste. I get frustrated waiting for it to “type” a news message to me, and while the chat format is nice, the two choices between either “more” or “next story” feels limiting. If we could use AI to make the news chat experience much more interactive, I think it could be a really great tool for people to engage with the information.
