The 31st annual PDC Darts World Championship is finally back. After 12 months of players all around the world perfecting their craft all with the same goal in sight, to be crowned the 2024 World champion and take home the £500,000 prize.

With that being said, Who are the front runners tipped to take home the gold?

5. Rob Cross — 14/1

Breaking onto the scene in a huge way back in 2018, with a final victory against Legendary Phil Taylor in the veteran’s final bow at the Ally Pally to secure his very first World Championship, Cross will be hoping to recreate that form in this year’s event.

“Voltage” comes into the tournament hot off the heels of a runners-up medal in the Grand Slam losing against Luke Humphries. The current World number eight Will be hoping he has hit form at just the right time as he sets World title number two in his sights.

4. Michael Smith — 10/1

The reigning World Champion Michael Smith will be hoping to achieve back-to-back titles this time around as the man from St Helens has already secured his place in Round 3 after an opening night victory against Kevin Doets by three sets to two.

The 33-year-old has had a mixed year thus far, reaching the semi-finals of the Grand Prix, Premier League and Masters, while also climbing to the top spot in the rankings.

3. Gerwyn Price — 9/2

The 2021 World Champion and former world number one comes into the tournament on the back of a year which saw the “Iceman” reach the final of the Grand Prix back in October losing to Luke Humphries 5–2.

Price will be looking for retribution at the Worlds’ after last years5–1 defeat to Gabriel Clemens 5–1 in a match which saw the Welshman debut the controversial “noise cancelling” ear defenders.

2. Michael Van Gerwen — 7/2

The former best in the world and three-time champion at Ally Pally, Van Gerwen comes into the Worlds looking for redemption after losing in the final last time out against Michael Smith.

The Dutchman has enjoyed 2023, claiming a record-breaking 7th Premier League title as well as winning the World Series for a 5th time.

“Mighty” Mike hasn’t lifted the World Championship title since 2019 but could 2024 be his year once again?

1. Luke Humphries — 3/1

The current World number three is the hot favourite coming into this year’s World Championship after an emphatic year in which the 28-year-old won the Grand Prix, Grand Slam and Players Championship, overcoming the likes of Gerwyn Price, Michael van Gerwen and Rob Cross in the process.

Luke will certainly be hoping to carry his fantastic form over to the big stage and start his 2024 in the same way he has finished his 2023.

Who do you think will be crowned as the 2024 World Champion?
