Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation and Resourceful Communities Bring Gathering for Good to Winston-Salem
As a part of its discussion series Gathering for Good: Rural + Urban, the Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation will partner with Resourceful Communities of Durham to host the first of two discussions at the Cardinal Hotel on August 9, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
During Gathering for Good discussions, attendees discuss what connects rural and urban regions in North Carolina, while unraveling and examining the issues that ultimately divide the state. The event provides an opportunity for participants to recognize the characteristics and assets that make North Carolina’s regions unique.
“We created this series to allow for us all to have a chance to speak our peace, provide feedback on the direction of our state and community, and meet our neighbors,” said Nation Hahn, Founder and Board Chair of the Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation. “The goal of the series is to spark change by inspiring, challenging, and connecting us.”
The discussions will challenge Winston-Salem residents to brainstorm ways in which producers in different NC regions can have access to markets across the state, focusing primarily on education as a market-demand generator. Past strategies have focused on developing educational programs, increasing social mobility and building cultures that break the cycle of poor health. Each discussion seeks to empower and ignite action among younger and older generations.
“Our hope is to spread the message that everyone has a place at the table that brings about change in our state,” said Hahn.
Rusty Hall, Principal of Old Town Elementary School, along with other featured speakers will discuss their personal experiences and work, sharing the success they have seen in improving their communities.
