If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent the last few weeks feeling pretty helpless. I’ve been staying in except when necessary, practicing encouraging social distancing, washing the hell out of my hands, and writing about things like what jails and prisons should be doing. But it just doesn’t feel like enough when we’re in the midst of a deadly global pandemic.

But right now, small actions can make all the difference in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Here are some things all of us can do.

1. Practice and encourage social distancing.

Now is the time to STAY HOME.

Binge-watch TV. Read a book — or several! (Most libraries have e-books available.) Order take out (and microwave it at home to be extra safe). Order your groceries online, leaving the grocery store for people who cannot use this resource. Avoid crowded outdoor areas.

DO NOT eat in restaurants, drink in bars, sit in coffee shops, schedule playdates, let your kids play on playground equipment, go to church, or hang out with family or friends outside of people who live with you.
