Willful Disruption of Government Process

Podcasting, my new favorite hobby.

For a few months, some lovely friends and I have been podcasting at Meet the Contenders. After the 2016 election, like many others, I was depressed, anxious, and wanting to do more. Some amazing friends (who also happen to be badass female attorneys) and I were trying to figure out what the best way to harness our particular skills was, and eventually the fantastic Shawna Bray came up with the idea of podcasting! At Meet the Contenders, we interview Democratic candidates all over the country and try to ask them important policy questions.

We’re hoping ContendersPod will be a way to help connect progressive and liberal candidates to the voters, donors, activists, and volunteers they need to win. Subscribe today, follow us on twitter, and like us on facebook! And if you’re a candidate who wants to talk to us, send an email to MeetTheContenders@gmail.com.(And if you enjoy social media promotion or scheduling and want to help us out with that, hit me up! 😉 It turns out a bunch of lawyers aren’t so good at the creative parts of having a podcast.)

And today, I am super excited to announce that my newest project, Civil Fights, has officially launched! Civil Fights is a production by me and the ACLU of West Virginia. My co-host, Noah Brozinsky, and I, dig into legal issues to really break them down and show how they’re affecting real people. Our first episode, Willful Disruption of Government Process, is about the arrest of Dan Heyman at the West Virginia Capitol and the importance of a free press in a democracy. You can listen on our website or get it on your favorite podcasting app! And check out our blog on the ACLU-WV website for more information about Dan’s case and the First Amendment. Our guests this week were ACLU-WV Policy Director Eli Baumwell, Newseum Vice President Gene Policinski, and Public News Service Reporter Dan Heyman.

Tune in next week for a legal update on Donald Trump’s Muslim Ban!

(Note: if you notice we’re missing from your favorite podcasting app, please let me know! I think they should both be everywhere, but I’m still new at this!)
