Romanticism as a literary art has often been cited as an influential artistic ideology that has since been surpassed by other forms of literary engagement. And while it is rare to call contemporary poets or artists romantics, many scholars have connected the attitudes and effects of romanticism to modern day ideas about liberalism and political engagement. In the context of British romanticism, it occured at a time where the British were exporting their ideas of culture and knowledge globally. So is it so wrong to say that Romanticism as a literary doctrine could influence the ways that its followers understood…

“What if I shaved all my hair off- or waxed! and you could wear your big Nike’s so your taller than me. You could ask me about my school or girls I’m into. I could always have to go home and you’d find new ways to convince me to stay? Would you worship me then?”

“Nah. It’d wouldn’t be the same.” I said. He asked me at least once a month. He would think he knew what I wanted; some new thing I’m into or some guy I said was hot. He would imagine a way of shaping himself. He…

How the battle for the soul of America is contingent on changing our relationship to choice.

When I was a kid, my dad told me that “there comes a time in every man’s life when he must make a hard choice. Make sure you have the courage to make it.” Gendered language aside (hey, the man was born in the 1950’s), I think this was some of the best advice I have ever been given.

I think my dad’s advice however is distinct from the average American’s understanding of “choice.” …

How the mainstream media puts itself at a disadvantage fighting Trumpism.

Trump lying at a rally — David Ortiz, Reuters

This year alone, the leader of the free world has made approximately 13,435 false or misleading claims while at the same time having the audacity to call CNN fake news. To put that number into perspective, that is about 200 more false claims than Russian president Vladimir Putin made in 2018. And the year isn’t even over yet.

And while these statistics are infinitely ridiculous, most Americans (and the mainstream media’s) first impulse is to argue back against him and contest what he is saying with basic facts about the world. That’s speaking truth to power, right?

In the words…

This last July, a phone call between President Trump and the president of Ukraine sparked public outrage concerning a possible abuse of power. After an initial whistle-blower complaint went viral, the President subsequently released a transcript confirming the whistle-blower's allegations that A: the president used his office to coerce an investigation into a political rival and B: mentioned that rival (Biden) specifically.

But despite all that, even after doubling down on the white house lawn, expanding the call for election interference to China while his chief of staff described the call as a quid pro quo over Biden specifically, a…

Last week while getting a refill on my prescriptions, I sat in a waiting room with Fox News playing on the television. After listening to the usual banal nonsense about immigrants and religious liberty violations, I listened to an interesting segment from Laura Ingraham complaining about the left’s fascist adherence to identity politics.

This struck me as odd, because as somebody involved in leftist circles both online and IRL, identity politics seems to be anything but a unifying/monolithic concept on the left. The Marxist-Leninists accuse the SJW’s of being overly sensitive and bourgeoisie, the SJW’s accuse the Marxist-Leninists of being…

Have you ever seen a gay person be a total piece of shit? Me neither. We’re all perfect. But the other day, turning on the daily news after a long day of pretending to smile at my boss, I saw a shocking sight: Milo Yiannopolous commending Donald Trump’s February 2019 announcement that he would spearhead an international campaign to decriminalize homosexuality.

Think about it: a racist, campy gay man affirming a homophobic, racist orange man for launching an international effort aimed at disrupting his own Party’s geopolitical beliefs. …
