Hi,
I'm Jamie McGarry, and after founding Valley Press in 2009, I spent the next decade working full-time to build it into one of Yorkshire's leading independent publishing houses. In that time I oversaw the publication of more than 200 titles, in almost every genre you could think of – novels, short stories, poetry, memoir, history, music, cookbooks, graphic novels, childrens' books, art books, drama, and more.
In May 2022, as initially announced here, I stepped aside from the day-to-day running of Valley Press to lead a quieter life as a publishing consultant. If you'd value advice or guidance on your publishing projects, including any self-publishing ventures, please write to me on contact@jamiemcgarry.com and I'll see what I can do to help. I have recently begun sharing my knowledge of small press publishing in a new series of in-depth how-to articles; you can find the introduction here and the first full article here.
I am also available for audio and video production work, which – like publishing – I have been passionate about since the age of 6 or 7, but not had as much chance to pursue professionally over the years. I recently worked as producer and editor of a fifty-lesson video course for textile designers, which was a refreshing change of scene! If you're interested in working with me on any kind of digital media project (perhaps to take advantage of my location in Scarborough, North Yorkshire) please also write to contact@jamiemcgarry.com.
Thanks for reading, and here's wishing you the best of luck with all your projects.
– JM
