Great Article but I’d disagree on trade shows. In the past 10 odd years the number of shows has increased and the quality of attendees has dwindled — certainly here in the UK.

I’ve stopped actively seeking presence at trade shows as taking a stand is a lot of time out of the office to be sold to by others. Speaking is also a logical opportunity to showcase what you know but we can do that now digitally to a much wider global audience.

There is also a ton of great opportunities through harnessing Twitter data — not just tweets & mentions but the correlation of who is following whom, and who else they think is important.
