The power of silence. Often silence is applied to a situation where it is expected. Movie theaters, exams, libraries; you know the places where people will remind you to “Shhh!”

One space that that silence is also prevailing is Marketing & Communications. The world lost its mind when Beyoncé dropped her self-titled album back in 2013. WHERE WAS THE BUILDUP? There wasn’t any. Beyoncé and her team surprised the world and utilized the visual, photocentric platform, Instagram, to preview her album & visuals, as well as document her pop-ups throughout the nation.

Who doesn’t love a surprise?!

okay well plenty of people actually hate surprises, but for folks like me? I jump for joy (only if it is a good surprise, LOL). The element of excitement that brings butterflies and a rush of endorphins and adrenaline because you don’t know what to expect. However, to truly achieve the surprise, happiness excitement you project your MarCom concepts, keeping the public in limbo is a winner.

Your team must be tight. Loose lips sink ships.

There must be a pact among everyone involved to keep quiet about this. Unless you want someone to “leak” the information (still curious if any of the Apple leaks were real or fake.) Even if you have a team of one, it’s OK to keep things to yourself. Remember what Weezy said…

Real G’s move in silence like lasagna.

Clearly I’m a fan of silent visuals. Silence is beautiful. Silence is golden. Silence can be expressed in more ways than one. I’m learning to appreciate silence in my personal life and understand it more in my professional one. I think we all can learn a lot behind these notions of quieting our mouths, actions, oversaturated egos, prejudice and hate to achieve something amazing for all to enjoy.

The spectrum of silence is limitless.
