As an introvert, I’ve always found public speaking difficult. I’d much rather have a one-on-one conversation or chat with a small group than stand in front of a large audience. But as an engineering leader, part of my role involves public speaking — whether it’s presenting at meetings, sharing updates with teams, or building alignment across different departments. Communication is crucial, and I’ve realised that public speaking is integral to my job.
In my leadership journey, public speaking has been a hurdle. It wasn’t a natural skill, but I’ve gradually learned ways to cope. Though I wouldn’t say I’m a master, I’ve learned a few tips that make it more doable and, at times, enjoyable.
