Great blog — I totally agree!
I recently went to several countries in Southeast Asia. It is such a blast to try to figure out basic things, moment to moment, day to day. Buying street food and trying to figure out what you are eating because reading Thai or Vietnamese is not possible. Getting a surge of adrenaline when haggling because we have no training on how to do it well and the locals are so dam cool and calm. Taking public transportation for the equivalent of 13 cents. Having a huge meal for three people with many beers and getting the check for $9.45. I much prefer that type of experience than resorts or predictability!
