Yesterday I went to meet a future Self-Realization Meetup cohort (and younger version of me) in a trendy art and music infused beverage cafe in downtown Soquel (a most beautiful town a few miles from me), where they take to using a bit of sarcasm…
The cafe, “The Dirty Mug,” has written under “Freshly Brewed Coffee,” the words: “But you knew that, right?” The wall menu, with items named Gritty Kitty (gelato drink), Mug Shot and Witch Hazel (Espresso), Green Goblin (special yerba mate), and Dirty Potato Chips, hangs next to a row of ugly mugs (really ugly) and across from a wall of local art pieces (really pretty).
When I asked the sharp eyed millennial whippersnapper, who’d scoped me out and summed me up by the time I approached the counter, what they were known for and what was good, she gave me another quick once over, looked me directly in the eyes, and boldly said, “How bout a Ray-of-Fricken’ Sunshine.” It wasn’t a question.
After hearing that one of the many yummy ingredients in my namesake coffee was a fresh squeezed orange (orange is my favorite color, favorite essential oil, and my go-to fruit to add in almost any savory or sweet recipe), I suddenly felt the sun’s rays beaming through the large picture window right into me, and connect with the rays of my sunny inner being and said, “I’ll take that!”
She had sized me up pretty fricken’ accurately. That coffee drink might have been one of the most delicious I have ever had….and I have sampled more coffee drinks in my lifetime than a millennial has social media followers.
So, what is my new morning routine? Yep, squeezing the juice of a half an orange into my coffee. I don’t know if I’ll ever want it the old way again.
